GNS is a Federal government contractor with extensive experience in planning, designing, integrating and managing IT infrastructures. Our focus is on IT/cyber security, Quality Assurance (QA) and Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) because we believe these are two of the most critical infrastructure issues our customers face now and into the foreseeable future.

We are currently seeking to hire a Solutions Architect/SME to assist in the development and completion of all SELC quality related activities and deliverables for our DHS government client. This position focuses on implementing strategic processes on an enterprise level that can help improve quality from a system perspective, but also develop and implement quality enhancements for processes/procedures from an organizational perspective.  The job location will be in McLean, Virginia, with standing weekly meetings in Washington, DC, at the client onsite location.

Duties include but are not limited to::

  • Advise the client (DHS/CIS) in the areas of Application Design, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), application security frameworks and Information Architecture;
  • Review system design and associated documents in order to update documentation in USCIS’ new streamlined design documentation format; 
  • Provide recommendations for potential design improvements, opportunities for standardization, and evaluate technology/environment for possible migration to other USCIS platforms/stacks;
  • Perform application architecture, code & QA assessments of n-tier architecture applications to determine extensibility, scalability, maintainability and security capabilities to support business requirements;
  • Provide advice in the transitioning from legacy to multi-tier application architectures based on latest technologies in .Net and Java; 
  • Assist clients in the development of Application Consolidation strategies;
  • Assess and assist clients in defining Web Services and Service Oriented Architecture readiness, strategy and methodology to optimize the software development, maintenance, reuse and support;
  • Perform Systems Development Life Cycle Assessment and provide improvement recommendations in support of internal and outsourced development model;
  • Provide advice on optimizing current application architectures including .NET/Java technology architectural styles, tools, software life cycle impacts, security and best practices;
  • Work closely with development and architecture teams to understand infrastructure capacity and environment requirements for new developments;
  • Work with established QA and IV&V teams to identify architecture and make recommendations to enhance the existing architecture.



  • US Citizenship

·      Graduate level degree, preferably MPA, MBA, MS in information systems.

  • 5+ years of experience with IV&V in an Agile environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  • Experience with USCIS SELC guidelines
  • Familiarity with DHS and USCIS Policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with the quality assurance process as it exists at USCIS 
  • Lean Six Sigma certification and project experience within Agile SW development environment
